First Long Run with the Newton Gravitas
My upcoming first half-marathon will be an interesting challenge. Hopefully I’ll have the discipline to stick with the training plan.
On the Newton Gravitas: After about 20 miles with them (combined treadmill and outdoor running) I think I’m almost at the point to declare that I cannot imagine myself wearing any other shoes. Although I think I should have gone a half size bigger; fortunately, with RoadRunnerSports membership I can have them exchanged…but I’ll decide after a few more miles with them.

Hey there
I just got a pair of Motus, my very first pair of Newtons! Am just wondering about one thing. When u got your Newtons, did the shop recommend u to get a half size bigger than your normal running shoes? I got mine at size 9, which had the standard 1thumb space at the front (as per their recommendation in the literature that came with the box). Thing is, the shop recommended me to get 1/2 size up with 1.5 thumb space at the front. I didn’t like the bigger one, so I bought the one that was more snug.
The I read that you said you should have probably bought 1/2 a size bigger, and so I just wanted to get the opinion of someone who’s been running with Newtons are is fairly new at it, too.
Thanks!
my question to you would be, does your feet slide waaay forward with the newtons? pls help!

I’m sorry, didn’t realise how choppy my comment above was. Kindly ignore and proceed to the following:
Hey there
I just got a pair of Motus, my very first pair of Newtons! Am just wondering about one thing. When u got your Newtons, did the shop recommend u to get a half size bigger than your normal running shoes? I got mine at size 9, which is 1 size bigger than my current Asics Kayano 16′s. Thing is, the shop recommended me to get 1/2 size up with 1.5 thumb space at the front. Their reasoning is that the Newtons would make my feet slide waaay forward, especially during longer distances. Nonetheless, I bought the one that was more snug as I didn’t like how my toes were really swimming in the toe-box of the 9.5, and how I felt like Ronald McDonald when I wear them!
Then I saw you saying you should have probably bought 1/2 a size bigger, and so I just wanted to get the opinion of someone who’s been running with Newtons, and one who’s fairly new at it, too.
Thanks!

hi, Selly.
I usually wear a size 9 on running shoes…which is a little bit too big on Asics and Mizunos but just right with the Nikes.
When I read that the Newtons run small, I figured that size 9 should be fine. Yes, at that size it’s 1 thumb space. the shop asked me to try the half-size bigger…but i didn’t bother trying because–like you said–the toes would have been swimming in the toe box…
After a few runs in them (including a 5K) i feel that there is a very slight digging on the big toes…it’s not causing pain or even numbing after the run…but it DID make me wonder if I should have gotten a half size bigger.
I’m still on the 60-day trial period (with RoadRunnerSports membership) so I will go there TODAY to try on the half-size bigger and maybe try running with it for a few days if I’m not sure…I was told that worst case i could switch back to the one I purchased originally.
I’ll post my findings on this blog…
