Not too long ago, I switched from using a multi-blade razors (Gillette Sensor) to a single blade upon realizing two things:
- I certaintly don’t need more than one blade when shaving
- Gillette is raping us with the price of their razor blades
I toyed with the idea of switching to straight edge razor, but the price of a decent straight edge can get quite expensive, and I abhor the idea of being able to slit my throat without even trying too hard.
So the only other alternative is using the classic single-blade safety razor. I bought the tried-and-true Merkur safety razor (after reading the intarwebz) with Derby blades, a large tube of Prorazo cream and a badger-hair brush. I was struggling with the first few shaves, and even had a nick or two…but I got used to it and now I can never see myself shaving any other way…plus it’s cheaper, too!
