Seth Rogen is Not Funny
I was watching Conan last night with Seth Rogen as guest. Seth is trying so hard to spew out one lame punchline after another, hoping to get a snicker from the audience.
It didn’t happen.
And then it just dawned on me: Seth Rogen is NOT funny. Why is this guy getting so much attention than he deserved?
In retrospect, not one of his movies I have seen is closed close to being funny. “Knocked Up”, “Pineapple Express”, or even “Zack and Miri”…the movie with the most vomit-inducing love scene.
I think people just want to label Rogen as funny maybe because he’s one of the “Freaks and Geeks” alumni.
Among the Judd Apatow usual suspects, here’s my verdict:
Jason Segel is funny.
Jonah Hill is funny.
Paul Rudd is funny.
Jay Baruchel is funny.
Hell, even James Franco is funny.
But not Seth Rogen.
I think he’s trying to pass as a Kevin Smith alternative…except Kevin Smith is funny, and he’s not.

**”closed to being funny”
**failing to show any examples.
“Funny” is a subjective thing. Just because you don’t think he is, doesn’t make it so. If you had at least given examples, I could have at least tried to understand your point.
Here’s to hoping I stumbleupon better authors.

^^^ Yes, “funny” is a subjective thing. Thanks, Captain Obvious.
Look, if you fail to notice: THIS IS A BLOG. It is full of subjective views on a lot of things. I did not state Seth Rogen being not funny as a FACT; I stated it as an OPINION. So, yeah, it is subjective.
Most of his jokes are in reference to being stoned which are not funny. Watch the Conan episode on YouTube or something. NOBODY WAS LAUGHING.
I just saw the trailer for “The Green Hornet.” I’m just hoping he doesn’t destroy the franchise.
I do not write posts on this blog for “people to understand my point.” ESPECIALLY from anonymous smart-jerks like you.
Here’s to hoping I get better commenters.

Thank god someone else noticed. He is not funny in the slightest, and how come he suddenly seems to be beating up / shooting people? His films are all really weak (1st half of Pineapple Express was OK I suppose). Stop letting him star in movies please. Comedy side-kick fine.

Kevin Smith isn’t funny, either…
December 19th, 2010 10:46
Agreed, not funny at all.
He was an episode on Mythbusters and I couldn’t help but cringe when he was on through out the whole show; he just kept making a weird, forced laugh. His being on the the show seemed pretty pointless.
I have nothing personal against him, but I agree… why so much attention?

I am aware this is a very old post. I am aware you are not very literate. I am also aware that I think you, in fact, are quite funny. “…not one of his movies I have seen is closed to being funny.” No, the movies are not ‘closed’ to being funny. They are very ‘open’ to being funny. The word ‘close’ is what you were looking for. “…to pass as Kevin Smith alternative…,” makes no sense. Did you mean to include an ‘as’ in there? Your blog sucks and you suck at writing.
January 5th, 2011 11:28
Chris:
Ah, yes, you are correct on the misuse of “closed.” I didn’t realize that until I read your comment. As for your second correction, I added an “a.” It probably still doesn’t make any sense. I hope my high school grammar teacher doesn’t find this blog.
I agree this blog sucks and I suck at writing; I never claimed the opposite, though.

I have nothing personal against Seth Rogen…. but he destroys Green Hornet. I watched Green Hornet and it is a disaster because of him. He’s trying to be funny but fail. He’s not funny and he’s dying to be funny.

You are absolutely right. Seth rogen on his own is not funny at all. In fact, he is anti-comedy to some degree. Any character he voices is unfunny, even when executing a joke that would otherwise be funny. When watching his movies, any laughs you are likely to get are normally due to the people around him. There are actually a lot of comedians that are not funny, but there are enough tasteless morons to keep them in the movies. Dane Cook, Paula Poundstone, Jonah Hill (the novelty wore thin pretty quick), Norm Mcdonald, Wanda Sykes, Tyler Perry, Carlos Mencia, Howie Mandel, Jeff Dunham, Carrot Top, Hell, even Sandler isn’t funny anymore. It’s all garbage but most people are too dumb to know it. The laugh track masks the fact that there is no humor. Look at how long Two and a Half Men and Big Bang Theory have lasted. These shows are piles of steaming crap, meanwhile good and intelligently written shows like Arrested Development are axed after a few seasons. Americans as a whole have s#!t taste in entertainment. Good comics like Doug Stanhope, Dave Chappelle, Daniel Tosh and others are hard to come by.

I was with you about Seth Rogen being unfunny until I saw you list Jonah Hill as being funny. Now I think Seth Rogan might be a comic genius due to that idiotic opinion of yours.

jerk, I was actually watching Tosh.0 when I read your comment, Totally agree with your list of unfunny, except Norm McDonald (check out Burt Reynolds impersonation on SNL). I also agree with your funny comics, and I would add Bill Burr to that list. I hate to be that guy, but I’m gonna. Almost all the “Apatow” guys, plus many others listed as unfunny, are Jewish. Just stating facts, so flame on if you can, can’t wait to read it. I’d also add Seinfeld, Larry David, Woody Allen, Sandler, Andy Samberg, Billy Crystal, Shia LeBouf, Jesse
Eisenberg, etc, to the list of unfunny, tons of
constant work, and Jewish.

^^^ O HAI HITLER…i didn’t know they allow you to surf the ‘net in hell.
October 3rd, 2011 04:58
Typical over reaction, exaggeration, demonizing, and slander for stating FACTS. You call me Hitler and all I did was tell the truth. Fuck you. Why am I so bad for saying that stuff. Everyone is so fucking sensitive. Stating that there are a lot of Jewish comics in Hollywood is like saying there are a lot of black athletes in the NBA. People don’t like to talk about it, but it is simply true and you can not deny it.
October 3rd, 2011 07:00
Dear Hitler: No, you’re not stating facts; you’re stating a generalization, at best. saying that the list of people you state as not being funny has something to do with them being Jewish has no basis…it’s just you acting like a racist and, well, a tool (how appropriate!). so there’s a lot of Jewish in Hollywood…and how does this support your argument (if you even have one)? it doesn’t. try again, genius. i know this response makes you angrier because i happen to point out the flaws in your winning personality, but to quote your favorite, Daniel Tosh: SUCK IT.
October 3rd, 2011 11:55
You’re Hitler. Also, I would be a religionist, not a racist, but I’m neither. I’m just a person who sees things as they are. I don’t have an argument. I just don’t think those people are funny, and I think there are a disproportionate number of Jewish people in the entertainment (and financial) industry. Sorry.
October 3rd, 2011 20:14
“I would be a religionist, not a racist…” wow…talk about putting one’s foot in his mouth.
you want to get down with semantics, tool? replace the word “racist” with “religionist” my previous comment and it still stands. also, technically, being a Jew can be both refer to race and religion or ethnicity.
i could go on, but it’s very taxing to argue with a coward that is hiding behind his anonymity on the internet…but it’s comforting to know that you are making your fellow citizens in Oregon proud, tool.
October 4th, 2011 06:09
I’m done. No one ever changes their opinion on the internet. Arguments just turn in to name calling and “I’m so smart, you’re so stupid, look at all you’re errors, repeat insults, end with threat.”
Since you found out which state I live in, why not go further and find me. I mean, I am a coward, but I would like to talk to you and prove you right.
Also, I’m probably on some ADL list by now, so I’m sure they can point you in my direction.
October 7th, 2011 02:27
“I’m probably on some ADL list by now…”
don’t flatter yourself.

Let’s all just get along – united in our shared bemusement as to why people bother to film Seth Rogan and then play back that film.
