‘Haven’t Seen Last Week’s Episode of “Heroes?”

Monday, January 29th, 2007

…Fret not, you didn’t miss anything.

Somebody is screwing up in the production of “Heroes.”  Has anyone noticed how stupid slow the pacing of this series?  Case in point: have you noticed how many episodes did the slogan “Save the cheerleader, save the world” span?  It should have been just one or two, but I think I counted 1,027 episodes.  Yeah, that’s how freaking slow the damn storyline is.

And speaking of storyline: Oh my effing gawd.  How many sub-plots do we need?  Too many characters…Imagine, there are two bald skinny black dude in the story; the only difference is their accent.  Each and one of the characters has a story and has their own stupid agenda…most of them are not inter-connected.  The sub-plots will probably end up related in the end, but at this point I couldn’t care any less.

NBC is screwing up the only thing that is supposed to save them their abysmal viewership.  I’m not watching that crap anymore.

Happy Feet

‘Just saw this movie.  I was expecting this to be one of those “yet-another-computer-animated-kiddie-flicks.”  Fortunately, I found this movie very entertaining and very well-made.

The computer animation is IMO heads-and-shoulders above ANY computer-generated films ever produced.  Yes, that includes all Pixar-made movies.  The penguins and seals are so lifelike; the movement are so darn convincing you’d think you just saw the “actors” of “March of the Penguins” doing song-and-dance routine.  And not to give too much away, the blending of live-action and CG are totally seamless.

While the story was meh and a little too far-fetched, the screenplay and directing more than made up for it.  The cast was great, and to think I’m always a little annoyed with Robin Williams doing voice-overs.

Highly recommended.

Yes, the iPhone has been announced.  Wow, $600?  And I have to switch to Cingular?  That PS3 is looking mighty cheap now…and as for AppleTV…eeeehhhh…I think I’d rather wait for SlingCatcher

Mosaickr Test

Tuesday, January 9th, 2007

mosaickrHere is an image mosaic created using mosaickr.  I found about this tool/website through lifehacker.

Basically, what it does is that you select the image you want to create the mosaic with and then use images from your flickr account (either by random selection or you choose the picture your photo or even other users’ photostream) for the mosaic “tiles.”

What do I think about it?  the user interface is horrid slow (probably because it’s being flocked by Gawker subscribers at the moment).  By the time you finish selecting the mosaic tiles (even with random selection) you almost don’t care anymore.    The low resolution is free, the higher resolution isn’t.  I would have paid for the higher resolution, but since the interface is painfully slow, I opted for using the random selection of images for the mosaic tiles, so my mosaic has random images of lizards and camera lenses which i didn’t want.  I’ll probably take a look at it again in the near future…it looks promising, but IMO it’s not ready for prime time.

I Updated To Windows Vista Today…

Sunday, January 7th, 2007

…and rolled back just a few minutes ago.  Fortunately, I have Norton Ghost 2003 installed and all I had to do was to restore to my Windows XP environment.  I had to uninstall for the following reasons:

I’m OK with Hamachi not working because I know it will be updated sometime in the near future for full compatibility.  Norton Ghost 2003 restore worked; you just need to explicitly “run as administrator” or the software will complain about not being able to see your drives.

Obviously, the deal killer is the missing drivers for my monitor calibration tool and photo printer.  I’m not going to spend money to replace my perfectly working tools just to keep current with the latest operating system technology.  Either I get the drivers, or I as Katie Couric would say: Bite me.

Update: According to a post in dpreview forums here, Eye-One Display should work fine with Vista.  I probably don’t have any reasons left not to upgrade to Vista.  I still won’t…bah.
