There Goes My Plan On Buying a PS3…
Given the coma-inducing price of the PlayStation 3, I hypnotized myself that I don’t need it…yet. I will only own one–cost notwithstanding–only when the PS3-exclusive Metal Gear Solid 4 hits next year.
Or so I thought.
Rumors abound that Metal Gear Solid 4 is no longer a PS3 exclusive. On one hand, there’s an argument that Kojima thinks that the the installed userbase of PS3 isn’t that huge by the time the game is released, therefore hurting the profit potential; on the other hand, there’s no way Kojima’s “pissing on the well he drinks his water from.”
What do I think? I think Kojima should screw both platforms and release it on the Wii.
Seriously, I think signs points to rumors being true. Why? It all boils down to Sony shooting themselves on the foot by cramming in Blu-Ray in the PS3 to jack up the price to $600. I consider myself a hard-core gamer and I could not justify buying that thing at $600! There’s a number of exclusive games to PS3 that are no longer exclusive…including Assassin’s Creed.
At the end of the day, Kojima has to decide for the financial well-being of his company. I’m sure Konami is shelling out a lot of cash to produce his future masterpiece, and last I checked, Konami isn’t a charitable organization. If there’s no possibility of a huge profit margin on being a PS3 exclusive by the time it’s released, the last thing that will be on Kojima’s mind is to worry about what Sony thinks if he releases the game on 360.
