Why You Should Get a Wii

TransferredImage_61 I have been one of those semi-skeptics when Nintendo finally revealed the design of their much-hyped controller.  When they explained that it has some motion-sensing technology built in, it only gave me nightmarish memories with the POS ”Power Glove” in my high school days.  Not only was Power Glove heavy, it only worked 0.000328% of the time.  And it was heavy.

Fast forward to today: I have been playing almost non-stop with my Wii since I got it last Monday (breaking for sleep and…um, work).  I know some reviewers are bitching about the how the controller play with the Wii Sports…here is my take:

  • Tennis.  This is definitely the most enjoyable game.  I don’t know what the other reviewers smoking about the controller being unresponsive…I think they just haven’t played tennis in real life.  Yes, you only control the hitting motion, but the top spins, slices, lobs and smash all register quite well on the Wii-mote.
  • Bowling.  I didn’t think I enjoy this as much as real bowling.  Even spin throw works!
  • Golf.  I think the Wii controller didn’t work well with this game…plus the fact that golf is BORING.
  • Baseball.  See Golf.
  • Boxing.  Now, this is where the Wii-mote works half the time…you would think that Nintendo outsourced the programming of this game to the makers of Superman64.  It’s stupid.

The other games I bought with the Wii was Zelda and Rayman Raging Rabbids.  Re: Zelda, other reviewers bitched about the movement of the Wii mote doesn’t really translate one to one on the sword actions, and to make a thrust, you need to hold the “A” button.  Well, I think the reason Nintendo did this was to keep the controls simple…most of the time (at least how I played it), you would sit on the couch with the arms relaxed.  Imagine if you actually need to make a thrusting motion with the Wii-mote to thrust the sword…that would be too much damn movement for me…you know, intead of lightly jiggling the controller.  As for Rayman, I haven’t played it enough to make a non-retarded opinion…I’ll save that for later.

I was going to get “Red Steel” but I backed out the last minute because of the mixed reviews…For now I’ll probably pick up “Call of Duty 3.”

And you’re still reading up to this point?  What’s wrong with you?
