OCZ Roadster 1GB: A Short Review

roadster-01

Nowadays, it’s hard to go wrong with thumb drives if you just need its storage functionality.  You just pick what size you want, go to NewEgg, then search for the cheapest thumb drive with your specified capacity.  Buy it then you’re done.

Well, in my case, I needed something a bit more: I wanted something physically small, and I should be able to hook it into my existing car keychain.  Now that narrows the number of options significantly, because most thumbdrives come with their own lanyards that I don’t want.  Long story short, I ended up ordering the OCZ Roadster.

Having the thumb drive in possession, I was kind of disappointed because of two major nits: First, it doesn’t have an activity light.  This is a stupid huge oversight.  Even the Sandisk SD card with built-in USB port has an activity light.  Second, the car key eye/hook/whatever that made me pick this thumb drive in the first place was very, very thin and not rugged enough…this would snap off easily.

So with these shortcomings, I don’t care if it’s fast or small, I cannot recommend this thumb drive.  I’m not sure what those reviewers were smoking when they gave this thing a glowing review.  People suck.

Update: Holy crap.  Just when you thought this drive can’t get any more sux0rz: the car key hook is too damn small.  I cannot attach it to my car keychain.  This is retarded.
