Eye-Fi
Wednesday, October 4th, 2006You know what would be really cool? …if someone creates a device that would fit in an Secure Digital slot of a camera (in lieu of a memory card) and that device would transmit the images to a specified computer wirelessly! It would be transparent to the camera itself–i.e., the camera still thinks that it’s writing to a memory card but the real magic happens in the device itself. Sure, you’ll probably need a computer to configure the card, which is fine.
Funny, just today in Engadget, I just read about such a device! It’s called Eye-Fi. They should be starting beta testing this month. I’m not sure about how the device will be configured, or even how it would draw power from the camera. Eye-Fi even said that they would have a CompactFlash adapter as well. Wow. I hope this thing actually exists.
