I bought my own copy from BJ's Wholesale for less than $13. Upon loading the game into my PS2, I almost had a heart attack when I heard grinding noises as the PS2 reads the disc, and I get "Disc Error" messages despite repeated loading and unloading.
I swapped the SotC game back to the disc tray and it loaded fine. After much frustration, I googled the issue and found out that this is not-so-common problem after all. Some PS2 develops problem over time to have problems reading CD-ROM based discs (disc with blue bottoms). This is why SotC game is not affected; it was a DVD-based ROM. This thing is so common that there is an ongoing Class Action Lawsuit.
While it would be nice to get about $5 from the CAL, I would want to play Ico NOW. There were a number of suggestions to get around this problem, but the one that I tried was the scotch tape trick: basically you put two short strips of scotch tape parallel to each other near the hole on the CD *label* side. IT WORKED. Apparently it has something to do with the disc thickness.
Anyway...I'm off to continue playing...|||113314504756591367|||Now Playing: Ico
